APRIL UPDATE OF DARWEN TOWN COUNCIL DURING THE CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWN.

Coun. Brian Taylor proposed that due to the lockdown, that the current officials on Darwen Town Council stay the same for a further 12 months. This proposal was circulated via email and there were no objections and so this was agreed.

Coun.Pete Hollings raised concerns that many local clubs and societies maybe experiencing financial problems due to the lockdown and suggested that the town council set aside financial assistance. Councillors were consulted and it was agreed to monitor as money will be available via the Crown Awards.

Coun. Pete Hollings asked re the commitment of the town council for this year’s floral display given there may be problems with supplies. Coun. John East had asked the usual supplier, Sonia Butler of Four Seasons to provide a tender and she had done this, via the clerk. This has now been forwarded to Coun. East to advise the next step.

Coun. East had circulated a request for funding help from the We Are Noise Studio for a youth music funding bid. A proposal of £1,500 was suggested. Coun. East to confirm any action via the clerk.

2.Correspondence

An anonymous letter had been received regarding alleged breaches of working practices at a local firm during the lockdown. The clerk had advised the writer to contact their union and or the Health and Safety Executive.

A request was made from Power for the People to support the Local Electricity Bill. This was agreed and the clerk to send off .

Coun Dave Smith had secured the quote for the agreed works, by the parks committee for the waterfall work at Bold Venture Park. This was £600 plus VAT. The work has now been done and the bill to be forwarded to the town council.

Funding advice for sporting groups via Sports England has been circulated via the council website and social media.

A letter confirming the postponement of the local council elections until May 2021 was received from BWD and circulated.

Coun. Taylor circulated the Darwen Primary Care Neighbourhood newsletter for Spring.

The audit has been delayed.

Paid in: £367.95 – Lloyds Trust contribution towards litter pickers.

Authorised payments:

£1,000 – Foodbank donation.

£734.10 – BWD for litter pickers

£80.83 – LCC – clerk’s pension contribution

£682.05 – R Hay, salary and expenses.

£158.86 – J East for noticeboard.

£40 – J. Barrit – PAYE.

£2,371.14 – WPS Insurance (charge was £700 less due to cancellation of Darwen Live.
