Timeline PhotosBlackburn Central Library: Get help to complete the Census 2021The census is a survey that happens every 10 years and gives a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales. It has been happening for over 200 years.Households will soon be asked to take part in census 2021, the first census that will be run predominantly online. Census day takes place on 21 March 2021.Your household will receive a letter with a code enabling you to complete your form online. In areas where fewer people have access to the internet, households will receive a paper copy. If you’d prefer a paper copy, you can telephone a free national helpline to request one - details will be in your letter. Help to complete the censusOur advisers can help you to complete your census form over the phone during lockdown by guiding you through the form, or completing it for you.One of our trained advisers will call you at your appointment time. You can also book one of our PCs, or use our WiFi, if you are able to complete the form independently.Appointments are available from Monday 1 March until 4 May 2021, and will need to be booked in advance by calling 01254 661221 between the following times (except BH):• Monday: 9am – 5pm• Tuesday: 9am – 5pm• Wednesday: 9am – 5pm• Thursday: 9am – 5pm• Friday: 9am – 5pm• Saturday: 9.30am – 2pmFace to face appointmentsFace to face appointments will be available if and when COVID-19 rules allow.These will be held at Blackburn Central Library and Darwen Library. Friendly new charity launchedb:friend originated in South Yorkshire and has been running for four years. In this time we have made many successful befriending pairings. Prior to Covid, volunteers would visit an older neighbour's house for an hour once a week. The charity had to alter our whole process due to the pandemic, making introductions over the phone. In changing our model we were able to make more pairings which has put us in a position to offer what we do elsewhere in the UK. After researching befriending in the UK , we identified Darwen as a potential place that may benefit from what we do. Our befriending service is completely free and we really aim for the pairings to become organic friendships, which means it is open ended, there is no set time limit or cut off - once a pairing is made the aim is for that relationship to flourish, ensuring the isolated person has ongoing company.Anyone wanting more information can contact via: Twitter: @_bfriendB:Friendwww.letsbfriend.org.uk ...
